On Xmas Day my son finally gave me my Xmas wish of a daughter in law. We waited nearly 7 years (so did Toni) to get our wish granted. Toni is an absolute sweetheart and we are delighted to have her officially as part of our family.

The colours were chosen as those are the colours for their wedding in January 2013.

The cake was a bit fiddly to make, but I am very pleased with the end result. I think I shall make another for Savannah's anniversary birthday in May as she will be away at school when it arrives.

Valentines card for a special someone

I made a very special card this year for Savannah and hope that when she receives it in the mail at school that it will make her smile. She's feeling a bit homesick at the moment and says that she misses me growling at her. I never thought I'd hear one of my children say they missed that.
I am trying to make a card each week for her so that she can put them on the wall in her room.
This card was made using only punches and 1 stamp. Its amazing what you can do with a few punches. There is an extra heart on the circle as you guessed it Mrs messy fingers (me) managing to get ink on the cream cardstock).

I sent another card card on the weekend like the previous post but it had stripes and a bling collar but I forgot to take a photo of it before I sent it off. With one child away at school and another in Papua New Guinea I am finding the house very quiet and quite lonely. After 29 years of kids we finally have the house to ourselves and I think its going to take some time to get used to it all.

Absolutely Purr-fect

I had to share with you all what Savannah was given yesterday from a friend of mine. This was a croxley writing pad and it has been decorated and personlised for Savannah, along with the envelopes to match. It will be great to go to the mailbox and see immediately that I have a letter from Savannah.

Now for my efforts for Saturday, I have become quite interested again in punch art. Its been about 5 years since I did any but the fundraiser I did for VSA included punch art.
I have made this card for Savannah and will post it to her when we return to Wanganui so that hopefully it is the first thing she receives in the mail.

All I can say is its a purr-fect card for Savannah. This was made using several punchs and my Big shot.

VSA Fundraiser day 2

Wow what can I say, but day 2 was amazing and soooo much fun. We have raised around $770 for VSA (final tally still to be confirmed as I am waiting on a couple of orders to come in) and a huge thanks to all who came to support this fundraiser. Both Aaron, myself and VSA really appreciate your support.
There are several people that I need to say a big thank you to:

Lynn for helping on the 2 days and providing her big shot machine
Savannah for her wonderful poster that she created on the computer for the for sale table.
Aaron for going to Papua New Guinea ( I would never have come up with the fundraiser without you)
Steve for putting up with me being in the craft room at night for the last couple of weeks working on projects
Coll who came all the way from Auckland to support the fundraiser, still can't get my head around the fact you came that far to come
Robyn for organising the church hall for me, opening up for us and locking up when we left
My customers who well and truly supported this fundraiser in a huge way. I really do appreciate your support and was so warmed by all your wonderful comments over the 2 days.

VSA fundraiser day one

I spent the afternoon with a wonderful group of ladies who came along to do some crafting and support VSA (Volunteer Service Abroad). It was a fun afternoon and I hope everyone had a great day. Many many thanks to those who came along and crafted, purchased cards, punch art and placed orders with me. It was a pleasure to meet those I had not met before and to spend some time with those that I hadn't caught up with over the Xmas break.

Fundraiser for Volunteer Service Abroad

Hi everyone

I am organising a fundraiser for VSA (Volunteer Service Abroad). www.vsa.org.nz As some of you will be aware my eldest son Aaron is leaving for Papua New Guinea in early Feb and needs to raise money for VSA prior to his travel, so given that I only seem to know about crafty things I thought I would run a 2 day fundraiser.

The date have been set as Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd Jan (Wellington Anniversary weekend) from 1 to 4pm each day

I will be offering 3 projects each day for $15 a head (or if you book for both days it will only be $25) and will have a table of items for sale (ready made cards for $2.50 and lots of craft items at greatly reduced prices). Some of the projects will be 3D (boxes, bags) projects and some will be cards. All proceeds from the day will be donated to VSA.

For my Stampin Up customers Salebration starts the next day so all orders that have been paid for by the 23rd Jan I will donate the 5% shipping to VSA

All orders placed on the day will be elegible for the free salebration items. Just a reminder that you get 1 free salebration item for every $120 excl shipping.

If you have not crafted before now is the perfect time to give it a go. Each of the projects will be simple to put together and it will all be explained step by step.

A gift for a very special teacher

Today was Savannah's last day at Intermediate and we wanted to make something for her amazing teacher Miss Dent. Our pansies had not grown enough to even look like bursting into flower so the terracotta pot was not able to be used in the bike.
Instead Iof the pot I used the candy wrapper die to make an octagonal box which of course we filled with chocolate and fitted absolutely perfectly in the bike. Ithen added a cracker made with the same die and a little favour made with one of the two tags die set with a couple of ferrero rocher chocolates
.
I added some cellophane and a double looped bow using the bow maker hubby made for me and I have to say I am pretty pelased with the end result. I hear Miss Dent was too.

All the other staff (there were about 25 in total) got a cracker complete with poinsettia and the fererro rocher chocolates.

I still have a heap of things to make and I hear Xmas is next week (shock horror). I must say I will be pleased to use a different colour after Xmas as I feel like I have only been using cherry cobbler for months (well I did do all my Xmas cards at Labour weekend) so I'm not really stretching the truth too much.

I will try and get another post in before Xmas but if I don't I hope you all have a wonderful Xmas with family and friends.

More Xmas goodies

Savannah had to have a gift worth no more than $5 for Secret Santa at school. The person she had to make it for was male so what better than a box filled with Cadbury Favourites.
The box uses the new candy wrapper die ($72.95 + shipping) and is octagonal in shape. I used the cherry cobbler seam binding ribbon (absolutely gorgeous and a steal at $16.5 plus shipping a roll)) to tie the box off. I then wrapped it in gold paper with Merry Xmas printed in red all over it and wrapped it up with more ribbon. I hope David is pleased with his gift next week when the Secret Santa gifts are handed out.

Advent Calendar, Xmas card and Xmas cracker

I spent today with a couple of girlfriends crafting. With Xmas fast approaching I decided it was time to make an advent calendar. Here is the results of my crafting today

Then time to make some Xmas crackers with a poinsettia on top (each cracker holds 2 favourites bars

and lastly the Xmas cards for everyone this year and given that I make them for work and for family and friends (88 and counting so far) the design had to be very simple.

The stitched stocking stamp set and punch and the candy bar die made Xmas so much easier this year than previous years.

Happy 13th birthday Savannah

Its hard to believe that Savannah is turning 13 tomorrow. Wow where has the last 12 and a half years gone? Seems like yesterday that a little tiny 6 and a half month old baby girl became part of our family.
I decided that I wanted something quite grown up for the invites as apparently according to Savannah she will be old enough to go clubbing tomorrow! Well as far as I am concerned it will be book clubbing only for quite a few years.

On the left is the birthday invite in Concord crush and wisteria wonder. I used the medallion stamp with concord crush ink but stamped off (I stamped on a scrap piece of paper and then stamped on the whisper white). This gives you the chance to have 2 colours with each of your stamp pads. Try it on a scrap and see the changes in the colour. Its a great technique for 2 step stamping. I use the 3rd image (stamp off twice) and the first impression for 2 step stamping, especially if I do not want to use the dynamic duo colour choice shown on a colour coach.

I used the Big Shot to cut the scallop shape in wisteria wonder and used a stamp from delicate Doilies to stamp the centre on white. The numbers were cut using the big shot and concord crush and the wording is from Word Play.

I also wanted to make her birthday card similar to the invites so I just changed the wording to another image from Word Play and added a few pearls here and there.

A couple of close up photos of the birthday card, amazing how you can do similar looking cards and yet a few embellishments and you get a more sophisticated look (very important when you turn 13)

Supporting the All Blacks

10 minutes before the World Cup final Savannah said she needed a supporters outfit. 10 minutes, oh no, If all else fails head for the craft room, brainstorm for a few seconds and grab the white and black staz on, find a piece of satin and stamp as fast as you can. End result a very happy young lady who cheered initially for the french (they had adopted France as school) but got on board and cheered for the AB's.

Not one of better craft projects but my daughter thinks Mum is the bomb (well at least last night anyway). I dare say by the end of the day she will be fairly grumpy as it was a rather late night for her but hey its been 24 years since we held the trophy so what the heck.

Am off to the craft room later today to make invites for Savannah's 13th birthday which is on Thursday and trust me she's a jolly tough critic of my work.

A gift for Grandad Horrell

Last month for Fathers Day I made Steve's Dad a wallet with a gift voucher and a letter from us. I think Nana and Grandad were pretty surprised at what you can make with a piece or 2 or cardstock.

I am off to Palmerston North today to teach this as a class and I get to catch up with a couple of friends that I haven't seen for a while. Here's hoping they enjoy making this wallet.

Baby shower gift

I had to come up with a gift for a baby shower and originally bought a nappy bag (oops they had one of those) so instead I got the thinking cap on, went shopping and bought yip newborn nappies.........108 of them!) Wow are those nappies teeny tiny.
So the idea was to make a nappy cake. The bottom 3 layers hide a bottle of wine and the top layer has a small baby bottle filled with candy (so that when the parents feel they need a little sweeting the candy is there to do the job.
Now I just have to whip it into the florist to get it wrapped and I will take it out on Saturday to the couple. Fingers crossed they like it.

Now I am off to make the baby card.............not sure what colour as I am sure you have realised that the gender of the baby is not known as yet

Greenhouse garden card & gift box

This set is a favourite of mine and it doesn't seem to matter what colour you use it works.

I made this card for our friend Rossy for his Mum for Mothers Day and I also made a gift bag for her.

I used Pear Pizzaz, Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant as the colours. Apparently he got heaps of brownie points with his Mum.

Forever Young cards

Recently I went to a Fun Day out put on by Stampin' Up in Auckland and was lucky enough to take 2 friends with me. Whilst there we were lucky enough to see some awesome Demos from other parts of the country. One of them was by the lovely Paula Dobson aand she used the Forever Young stamp set and a brayer. Paula is commonly known as the Sponging Queen and she is one very talented lady and awesome fun to spend time with to boot.
Here's the 2 cards I made, can you spot which one has the mistake on it? A hint it is not any of the black stamped images.

Build a Blossom card 1

I was delighted to see the arrival of the Build a Blossom punch and the matching stamp set in my first order which I placed on the 1st of September. I have had lots of fun with this set and am amazed at how quick it is to make a card using even just the punch.

This card uses the new in colour Calypso Coral and 3 embossing folders, a scrap of crocheted trim, a small greeting stamp and a brayer.

First you emboss the crumb cake card stock with the tulip border, then trim to the edges of the embossing. Take a piece of A5 cardstock, score and trim to fit the crumb cake embossed piece. Place 4 dimensionals on the back of the crumb cake piece. DO NOT ATTACHED IT TO THE CARD JUST YET.

Take an A5 piece of calypso coral cardstock, cut in half and put both pieces through your big shot with the vintage embossing folder. Roll over the idmages with the matching ink loaded up onto your brayer. You should end up with the raised embossed areas darker coloured.

Now take the blossom petal punch and cut out 8 of the large petals. Tape or glue 4 in the north, south, east and west positions ensuring that you pop a small length of crocheted trim under the petal facing east. Snail the trim to the back of the card to hold it down.

Next use your bone folder to curl the edges of your top petals and then secure them with a glue dot in the centre.

Take your piercing tool and make a hole in the middle for the brad to go thru, secure the brad and add a pearl if you like. Stamp your chosen greeting.

Punch 2 leaves in old olive, run thru the BS with the lattice embossing folder and glue dot one end and pop in under your flower.

You can now secure your topper to the card. Don't forget to make an insert.

Here is one I made for a wedding tonight, this one uses Bravo Burgundy as that was the colour of the bridesmaids, the invites, RSVPS, table names etc ( I also made them for the wedding as the wedding present to the bride & groom). Not the best photo I am afraid as you can't see the crocheted trim very well.

Here's a slight variation on the other 2 cards. Are you able to spot what I have done differently?
